Unity Tutorial 05

It was cool to see how weapons are interpreted into a game. There is a lot of little details that you have to put in to make the axe work with scripts, animation and sizing etc. There is alot of going back and forth for scripting. It felt like it took a very long time just to get the axe to swing but once i got it working i was happy as it looked good.

Games GDD Reading

The article by Greg Aleknevicus is kind of boring as he say's to think about colour blindness as well as using different colour's for objects so they don't get mixed up but i'm pretty sure you would know to do that anyway without being told. So he was just stating the obvious. The only useful sentence I got out of the article was 'how will the game end?' as this hasn't came into my head yet and give's me something to think about. Pic

Game Vision Statement

Introduction The Extreme Wilderness is a first person shooter game for PC that you are in a 3D open world and must survive the danger's. Description It start's off with you wake up in the wilderness with nothing so must venture your way around the map to collect different item's such as wood, a gun, ammo, health packs etc. with some of these item's you can kill the dangerous animal's before they kill you. With wood you can make a small little base to keep safe, or to even build a path way up onto a mountain. If you find a health pack it will restore all of your health if you have taken damage from something. Your health bar will be visible on the screen as well as the amount of ammo you have. The longer the game goes on the harder it will be to survive as the danger's become more frequent. You will be able to find different weapons across the map. There will be thing's such as a building that will be guarded by security and will try to kill you if yo

Unity Tutorial 03

I prefer doing tutorials like this where it is written out as you can go at your own pace and don't have to constantly be pausing a video and going back and forth, but at the same time sometimes you don't know where to find certain things so it would be nice to have a picture most step's. This tutorial was for sure the one that took the longest time as there was so many little parts to do. I'm still finding the C# language hard to understand. I'm glad it gives us the code to put in otherwise I would be like a headless chicken making up code and trying to find snippets online.

Collage Tech Tip

I used Fotor.com to create this collage, it was very simple to use. You just log in using Facebook and then import the images you want to use, then you can choose different templates.

Games MDA

8 Kinds of fun... didn't realize fun could be interrupted into so many words in games. After reading about them I find it helpful and easier to describe 'How Fun' a game is to other people because people would have a different meaning of fun. The slideshow by Clint Hocking was the worse presentation slide I have seen to this day.. none of it made sense and everything was all over the place with terrible diagrams. His word document started off with an example of Jesus and Moses playing golf..that put me off reading it all together haha

Tech Tip: Animated GIF

I used Gifmaker.me to make this gif of photos from my J1, i found it very easy and simple to make. I would highly recommend people to try it!

Game Idea Research

I've Decided to go with my idea of a open world where the character has to find different objects in the map to make it to different parts of the map, but there will also be obstacles such as enemies and dangerous animals. The story behind it will be you have woken up in the wilderness and must try survive and find other people that can help you. I got this idea from a game that already exist's called Rust, except in rust you just have to find resources to kill other people and survive where as my game will be a bit different as it isn't an online game so you will be against bots. Gameplay from Rust

Game Brainstorm

My first idea for my game would be an open world game where the character can build simple things by finding the resources to build so they can protect themselves from the  dangers in the game e.g an animal that can kill them. My second idea for my game would be a treasure hunt type of game where there is a character in a small open world where they have to find certain objects to pass to another part of the map they have to find a boat to cross the water. My third idea would be there will be different levels where the character can enter and they must fend off all of the enemies to pass to the next level which will get harder as it goes on. My Final idea for my game would be to have a selection of different characters that you can chose from in a 2D world where you have to get around different obstacles to make it to next level.

Unity Tutorial 02

UNITY... My head is all over the place after this tutorial. If something doesn't work I find it very hard to figure out what I did wrong, I had a problem with the script and it was the exact same as what the tutorial showed, but it wouldn't work for me. It's annoying that the unity tutorial just continues after each video because if you make a mistake you either can't go forward until you figure out what's wrong (which could take forever) or you just continue and not be able to see it work like it is suppose to.. But overall it seems much easier then I thought it would be to make a simple game like that. The C# script's are a little confusing as i don't fully understand the language but i'm sure I will learn and understand it more as time goes on. Creating this in world game reminds me of a game i played before called Rust.

Game Elements

It was hard for me to read this article about design tools. There was a lot of big words in there that I did not understand which kind of bored me.... but at the same time I wanted to know more about the tools and terms used.  The Perceived consequence tool summed up is when the player comes up with a plan and then see the results of it. Most RPG games would have used this. Adventure games would use a bit of both perceived consequences and intention. Mario

Game Design

Euro Games I have never heard of the term euro games until now. I thought the only genres to games were strategy, FPS(first person shooter), simulation and role-playing games. So now i have learned that there is such a thing a euro games, which are pretty much games that are not so competitive, you cant die in them, there is usually a score in it that doesn't get torn down but rather you build it up and it is a simple game that doesn't many pieces

Unity Tutorial

I found it kinda difficult trying to learn how to use Unity from watching videos as i keep having to constantly pause and rewind and switch between the tabs. I just find it confusing going back and forth. I do like the way you can use the different textures, it makes it a lot more realistic, and there is so many options to make your own look unique. I find it really fun being able to actually produce something by using the assets like the tree and grass, it gives the map a lot of character. I also love that you can just view and go around as a person in the game, it feels surreal that you have actually made it.

Thoughts about time management strategies

" The important habit of just starting " is one of the articles i read. I found it interesting as i am one of those people that always put work off until the last second and then end up handing in not so good work and reading all the solutions for trying to help not procrastinate has given me a bit of hope. All my life I have always put off school/college work because I could never concentrate and would always find distractions and from doing so in my head I just have this thought that no matter what I try I know more then likely it isn't going to work, so I don't even try. I also know my work wont be as good as others so that also puts me off but after reading this article it's made me think that any work is better then none. " 3 Steps to Recapture Time " is the second article I have read. I also found this article interesting as it explains calm ways to set out your day's work and use a lot of metaphors which I like as for me makes it easier to

First Impressions

I'm really looking forward to learning how to use Unity3D, as i play games and am interested how they are made. i also like the idea of blogs and being able to read other students ones, especially as i am new to the year its a good way for me to get to know people better.

Growth Mindset

https://www.pinterest.ie/pin/337840409537125049/ This was the first time I've heard about growth mindset. I would definitely see my self as having a fixed-mindset. If I ever come across a challenge i try my best to avoid doing it as i know no matter how much i try to overcome it it wont work.

Introduction to me

Well....my name is Chloe Traynor, I am from Wicklow and live up in the mountains in the middle of no where. I did a 2 year multimedia plc course in Blackrock to get into the second year of this course. I've been into computers since I was very young as one of my older brothers was a techy guy and showed me the ways.  I went on a J1 to the USA for the summer with 2 of my friends and it was the best experience of my life so far. you meet so many new people not just from America but from all over the world like Bulgaria, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia. We worked in South Carolina for 2 and a half months working in a restuarant where every one was super friendly and loved us just cause we were Irish. we then went travelling all along the east coast of America to Washington DC, Philadelphia and finishing off in New York. we seen everything there was to see in each of the states and by the end in New York we tried not to blow all our money so we just lived off of the euro saver menu in
